Writing Fest L1 S1-3

We are very much looking forward to working with all of you on Writing Fest as you promote it in your schools amongst your S1, S2 and S3 teachers and students. Writing Fest 2023/2024 saw really wonderful work produced in 19 different European languages. Please see below the link to last year’s booklets. Please share this once again with all your stakeholders as it showcases the wonderful writing talents of our students across all our schools.

 WRITING FEST – PUBLISHED BOOKLETS

This year the timeframe for Writing Fest is slightly different to last year in that we hope to publish the Booklets in April. With that in mind we are encouraging students to start writing now! The students will then have most of November, and all of December and January to work on their pieces of writing.  We hope then that the Writing Fest School Coordinators will collect the pieces of writing by the 7th February, selecting a maximum of 6 pieces from each language section. The students can choose to write in L1/L2/L3 or L4 and they will be asked to work independently on this piece.

Two themes have been selected for this year and they are ‘What sustains us?’ and ‘Discovery’. Please share these themes with all the stakeholders in your school and the students have the freedom to write under the banner of these themes in whatever genre they choose; e.g. short story, poem, letter, essay, diary entry, blog, report etc. The maximum word count for each piece of writing is 1500 words.

We are aware that AI and various AI software such as ChatGPT may be used by students in their writing efforts. It would be impossible to completely detect this or insist that it cannot be used, therefore we will be including a disclaimer in the form which will collect the student’s information and the piece of writing submitted. This disclaimer will allow students to indicate if they have used AI and to what extent. The details on this form and the process for collecting the information and submitting the pieces of writing will be given at a later stage. For now we would like all students to concentrate on starting the writing process. The booklets will be published in April 2025.
