BratMUN 2019 7-10 November
MUN stands for Model United Nations. It is a conference where students from different schools meet to discuss, debate and attempt to come up with solutions to a variety of major world issues. ESK students have been going to various MUN conferences for over a decade now, with many students attending multiple events, and this year fifteen S6 and S7 students, plus Mr Boothroyd and Mr Maguire, set off early on Thursday to travel by train, plane and coach to Bratislava, Slovakia, to attend the 16th BratMUN conference.
They had spent many weeks before learning about their countries and the procedures of MUN and were ready to get down to business.
This time the students were representing countries as diverse as Bosnia, Iran, South Korea, Switzerland and Yemen.
Over the next days they examined topics including LGBT rights, nuclear weapons, the Srebrenica massacre, the Rohingya minority in Myanmar, preventing malaria and the peaceful use of space.
After three long days of intense debate, arguments and discussion the group returned to Karlsruhe on Sunday evening; tired but enthusiastic about the whole trip, new friendships made and the experiences they had.
Some of them are already looking forward to BratMUN 2020!
